Tartaric Acid Food Grade 55 Lb Bag
Tartaric acid known chemical-wise as dihydroxysuccinic acid, tartaric acid is a natural product derived from winemaking byproducts (wine lees, raw tartar, and bitartrates). Tartaric acid is also found naturally in many plants including tamarinds, bananas, and grapes. When added to food or beverage products, a sour taste is produced. Combining its salt form (potassium bitartrate, or cream of tartar) with Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) creates commercial baking powder. In foods and beverages it is often used as a food acidulant to impart a sharp, sour and tart flavor.
In the textile industry, Tartaric Acid can be used as a "mordant" for dying textiles or fabrics to help fix or bind the dye to the fibers more effectively.
